Data Entry Jobs – Fun & Great Pay

Data entry jobs require the employee to enter a variety of figures and information into a company’s databases. If you want to attain a data entry job, here are some of the skills and qualities you need to have.

Typing Skills
Because most data entry jobs require a large amount of data to be entered quickly, it is important for data entry clerks to have good touch-typing skills. This means that the data entry clerk should be able to input data without looking at the keyboard. Data entry clerks should also be able to type at a fast speed — most employers prefer a data entry clerk to type at least 60 words per minute, and prefer a speed of 80 or 90 words per minute.

Knowledge of Different Software
Some of the most common programs used in data entry jobs include Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access and Open Office. A basic familiarity with a variety of software applications will help you adapt to a data entry job quickly and impress a potential employer.

Accuracy
One of the most important skills to have for any data entry job is accurate typing. Data entered into company databases can include medical code, strings of number and different contact information, all of which must be entered accurately.

Alertness
Data entry clerks should have the ability to remain focused and pay close attention to detail. A great data entry clerk should be able to remain alert after hours of work and should also know their limits — if a data entry clerk has been at a computer screen for hours, he or she should be able to sense when they are losing focus and take the proper measures to regain it.
